On the morning of March 26, an An-12 cargo plane of Atran Airlines made an emergency landing at Novy Urengoy Airport, skidding along the runway. According to preliminary data, the cause of the incident was damage to the landing gear, which was not properly secured, which led to the plane tipping over and turning on the runway. There were eight crew members on board, flying from Sabetta. Fortunately, none of them were injured, but the incident paralyzed the airport, which is now closed for receiving and sending flights.

The plane, which is over 55 years old, had already encountered landing gear problems two days before the accident. According to the Baza Telegram channel, on March 24, when approaching the same airport, one of the landing gear legs failed to lock. The crew then decided to circle the airfield to fix the problem. After several maneuvers, the landing gear was released and the landing was successful. However, today, luck turned its back on the pilots: the left leg failed again, failing to lock, which caused the plane to flip over when touching the runway. The crew's actions this time also followed the instructions, but the accident could not be avoided.

Investigators from the transport department of the Investigative Committee of Russia are already working at the scene. They are studying the circumstances of the incident to establish the exact cause of the equipment failure. For now, the main version remains a mechanical malfunction of the chassis, related to the wear and tear of the aircraft structure, which has been in operation since the late 1960s. Novy Urengoy Airport, a key transport hub in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, has suspended its operations until the investigation is completed and the consequences are eliminated. Passengers and cargo are being redirected to neighboring airports, which creates additional difficulties for the region, which depends on aviation.
