Aviation News, December 13, 2025, Avia.pro. An emergency occurred at Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington. Smoke and fire were seen on the runway after one of the engines of a United Boeing 777 jettisoned during takeoff. Eyewitnesses and local media, including The Washington Post, reported the incident.
The plane, presumably on an international flight, is currently dumping fuel to reduce weight before an emergency landing. The fuel dumping procedure is being conducted in a safe area over uninhabited terrain to minimize risks to the public. The runway where the incident occurred is temporarily closed to both arriving and departing flights. Fire crews are on scene, actively extinguishing the fire caused by engine debris.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) confirmed that the crew reported a problem shortly after the aircraft began its acceleration, after which it returned to the airport airspace to prepare for landing. Preliminary reports indicate there are approximately 250 passengers and crew on board, none of whom, based on current reports, were injured. However, a detailed assessment of the situation is still underway.
