On Wednesday, October 8, at 8:30 a.m. local time, an incident occurred at Vilnius Airport involving a Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 flying from Vienna. The crew was forced to abort their initial landing attempt and perform a go-around maneuver due to navigational issues.
According to Lithuanian aviation authorities, the failure was caused by a GPS system failure, which the pilot confirmed in his flight report. The second landing attempt was successful, and the plane landed at 8:44 a.m. There were no injuries, and the incident did not cause any significant delays to the airport's schedule.
The Lithuanian Navigation Service reported that this is not the first instance of GPS disruption in the region. June 2025 saw a record number of complaints—1022 instances, almost double the number in May and 1.5 times the April figures. Experts attribute the increased frequency of disruptions to possible external interference, but there has been no official comment on the cause.
