One of the most dramatic and technically complex rescue operations of an American service member in Iran has concluded. According to the authoritative New York Times, citing informed sources in the defense department, the pilot of an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bomber was successfully extracted from enemy territory and delivered to a military base in Kuwait. According to updated information, the rescued officer holds the high rank of colonel, which explains the unprecedented scale of the Pentagon's efforts to locate him. The high-ranking pilot is currently under the care of military doctors; his condition is considered stable, despite exhaustion and the enormous stress of being in an active combat zone.
The colonel spent more than a day in the harsh Iranian mountainous terrain, evading enemy search and rescue teams. After his aircraft was shot down, the officer ejected in a remote area, where he had to put all his survival skills to the test. It is reported that throughout his time behind enemy lines, the pilot maintained covert communication with command and control, navigating rugged terrain to prevent Iranian security forces from pinpointing his precise location. His discovery was made possible by the meticulous work of special forces teams, who operated with powerful air support, creating a safe corridor for evacuation helicopters.
