Secret meeting of world nuclear powers: what was discussed in Dubai?

On December 4, the first meeting of the nuclear "five" - Russia, the United States, China, France and the United Kingdom - took place in Dubai under the chairmanship of China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed the event, emphasizing its importance for discussing nuclear safety issues and strengthening dialogue among the world's leading powers.

The P1968 meeting format has existed since the signing of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in XNUMX. These meetings provide a platform for discussing current issues of nuclear policy, arms control, and global security.

Earlier, in October 2024, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced the upcoming meeting of the nuclear "five", noting that it would take place on the sidelines of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York. However, the meeting in Dubai was the first under the chairmanship of China, which underlines Beijing's growing role in global security issues.

During the meeting in Dubai, representatives of the five nuclear powers discussed current challenges in the field of nuclear security, including issues of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, prevention of nuclear terrorism and ensuring strategic stability. Particular attention was paid to the situation in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, where tensions remain related to the nuclear programs of individual states and regional conflicts.

China, taking on the role of the chairman of the nuclear "five", expressed its readiness to actively contribute to strengthening the international non-proliferation regime and promoting dialogue between nuclear powers. A representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that Beijing intends to work on increasing the transparency of nuclear arsenals and strengthening trust between countries possessing nuclear weapons.

International experts praised the meeting in Dubai, emphasizing its importance for maintaining global security. They noted that dialogue between nuclear powers is necessary to prevent an arms race and reduce the risks of nuclear conflicts.

However, some analysts express concern about the effectiveness of such meetings, pointing to the lack of specific agreements and mechanisms for their implementation. They emphasize the need to develop clear action plans and strengthen control over the implementation of the agreements reached.
