The US Senate is considering blocking the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey

The US Senate will consider blocking the sale of F-35 to Turkey.

According to Interfax, referring to the US Senate Committee on Armed Forces, the Senate’s draft 2020 military budget bill includes a proposal to deny F-35 aircraft to Turkey. It is indicated that such a restriction on the latest fighter-bombers will be effective if Ankara buys C-400 air defense systems from Russia.

On Thursday, 23 May, a report was posted on the committee’s website that the bill was intended to protect the United States of America from Russia's attempts to damage the potential of F-35. Selling Turkey aircraft and “Associated equipment is prohibited unless it provides assurances that it does not receive Russian C-400”.

The document says that deliveries to Turkey will be possible if the head of the Pentagon and the US Secretary of State will confirm that Ankara has not acquired C-400 and does not intend to do so in the future.

The document also proposes to exclude Turkey from countries that participate in the F-35 collection program. This must be done if Ankara acquires C-400.

The draft law on the military budget voted 25 committee members. Against two votes. The next stage is the consideration of the document in the full composition of the Senate.

Why shouldn't Turkey consider purchasing our aircraft? The USA will be delighted with this.
