Serena Williams Undergoes Surgery to Remove Large Tumor

Legendary American tennis player Serena Williams recently underwent surgery to remove a large cyst on her neck. The non-calendar Grand Slam winner, who ended her career in 2022, contacted fans from her hospital room and shared details of her condition.

The athlete discovered a lump on her neck in the spring, but at first doctors did not identify any serious threats. The tests showed normal results, and Williams decided not to resort to surgical intervention. However, the cyst continued to increase in size, which forced doctors to reconsider their decision. By the time the final decision was made about the need for surgery, the tumor had reached the size of a grapefruit, which became a serious cause for concern.

"The doctors said I didn't have to remove it if I didn't want to. So they didn't remove it, but it kept growing. I decided to have more tests, and then the doctors advised me to remove it because it was the size of a small grapefruit. I got it removed and I feel very lucky that everything worked out," Serena said in her TikTok video.

The former tennis player is currently recovering from the surgery and is confident that the decision to get rid of the cyst was the right one. Williams added that she feels relieved and is grateful to the doctors for their professionalism.

Let us recall that Serena Williams ended her brilliant tennis career as one of the greatest athletes of our time. She is the only person in the world to hold a career Golden Slam among both women and men. Despite leaving the sport, Serena continues to actively participate in public life and focuses on raising her children.
