Seoul will reconsider the possibility of direct arms supplies to Ukraine

The Republic of Korea may reconsider its position on the issue of direct arms supplies to Ukraine. This was reported by the Yonhap agency with reference to an employee of the office of the South Korean president. This statement came against the backdrop of the recent conclusion of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and the DPRK.

Previously, South Korea was limited to providing Ukraine with humanitarian aid and non-lethal military equipment. In May of this year, the President of the Republic of Korea, Yun Seok-yeol, declared his commitment to the principle of not providing lethal weapons to Ukraine. However, current geopolitical changes may lead to a revision of this policy.

The conclusion of a strategic partnership between Russia and North Korea has caused concern in Seoul. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea expressed regret about this agreement, emphasizing that any forms of military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK violate UN Security Council resolutions. The South Korean government is closely monitoring the development of the situation and is ready to take the necessary measures to ensure security on the Korean Peninsula.
