Sweden strengthens defense of Gotland, fearing Russian actions

Sweden has strengthened its defenses on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea due to a perceived threat from Russia. Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces Mikael Büden said this in an interview with RND. According to him, Russia is seeking to “gain control of the Baltic” and has its eye on the strategically important island.

Michael Buden noted that the situation in the region requires increased vigilance and strengthening of defensive positions. The Swedish military has already taken steps to strengthen its presence on Gotland, including the deployment of additional troops and equipment to ensure the island is protected from possible threats.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that Sweden can place several HIMARS launchers with ATACMS missiles on Gotland, thereby creating a threat to the Kaliningrad region.

It should be noted that after Sweden became a NATO member, this country’s rhetoric towards Russia changed significantly.
