Sweden summons Russian ambassador over allegations of airspace violation by Su-24 bomber

The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to summon Russian Ambassador Viktor Tatarintsev in connection with an alleged violation of the airspace of the Scandinavian country by a Russian bomber. The head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Tobias Billström, in an interview with SVT television, announced plans to protest to Russia in connection with the incident.

Billström called the actions of the Russian Aerospace Forces unacceptable and emphasized that the Swedish Foreign Ministry is in close contact with partners and NATO allies. According to him, such incidents require a decisive response and confirm the importance of international security cooperation.

The Swedish Armed Forces previously reported that a Russian Su-24 bomber allegedly violated the kingdom's airspace near the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Two Swedish Air Force Gripen fighters were scrambled to intercept the Russian military aircraft and escorted the Su-24 to its exit from Swedish airspace.
