Swedish aircraft pursued a Russian submarine in the Baltic Sea.

The Swedish Armed Forces have detected and monitored a Russian submarine that entered the Baltic Sea yesterday, October 14. The Swedish Navy's official account reported this, along with photographs showing a reconnaissance aircraft over the sea and the submarine itself.

Swedish fighter jets and naval vessels spotted a submarine in the Kattegat Strait, located between Sweden and Denmark, and have been pursuing it ever since. According to the military, it is a Kilo-class multipurpose diesel-electric submarine, as classified by NATO. A similar submarine, the Novorossiysk, recently attracted attention when it surfaced off the coast of France several days ago and was subsequently spotted in the North Sea, heading toward the Danish straits.

The Swedish Navy's statement emphasized that the operation is being carried out in close cooperation with NATO allies, in line with standard practice for monitoring Russian military vessels in the region.

This incident comes amid increased activity by Russian naval vessels in the Baltic Sea, raising concerns among countries in the region. Sweden, which became a NATO member in 2024, is actively monitoring such movements to prevent potential security threats.
