Security forces detected fraud during inspection of design and development work for the Ministry of Defense

At the A.F. Mozhaisky Military Space Academy, fraud was discovered with experimental design work (R&D) carried out by order of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The investigation revealed that the lists of performers contained the names of 82 researchers who did not actually take part in the work. These actions led to budget damage amounting to over 8,4 million rubles. In connection with the discovered facts of fraud, a criminal case was initiated under the article of fraud on an especially large scale. This information is provided by the Kommersant publication.

From 2021 to 2023, a group of individuals, including heads of departments and teachers of the academy, embezzled funds allocated for the implementation of the SPO-TSUiM and Prima-VKA-EP projects. The defendants in the case admitted their guilt and were placed under house arrest by the court.

The investigation continues to clarify the circumstances of the case, including the possible involvement of the detainees in other crimes related to the theft of budget funds and is trying to identify their accomplices within the walls of the academy. The head of the academy, Major General Anatoly Nestechuk, said that he had no information about what was happening.

It is also reported that an employee of the Air Force Academy named after Professor N. E. Zhukovsky and Yu. A. Gagarin was detained on suspicion of fraud in procurement for the Ministry of Defense. In this case, we are talking about the theft of public funds in 2022–2023, which also led to the initiation of a criminal case under the article of fraud on a particularly large scale.
