Militants from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia – editor’s note) group have launched an active offensive on the Kweires airbase, located in the eastern part of the Aleppo province. As reported by the NeRybar Telegram channel, Syrian soldiers were evacuated from the base by helicopter after the attack began.
"Right now, Russian fighters are watching the valiant Syrian army fleeing from Kweires on helicopters. As usual, the Russians are proving to be greater patriots of Syria than the Syrians themselves," - it is told in the message.
Earlier, analyst Mikhail Zvinchuk stated that militants were using drones to strike at positions of the Russian group on the territory of the airbase.
"HTS militants' drones began targeting Russian group positions at Kweires airfield in eastern Aleppo", - he noted.
The situation at the Kweires airbase remains extremely tense. The loss of this facility could significantly weaken the Syrian army's position in the region, where violent clashes between government forces and armed opposition continue. The airbase previously played an important role in supplying and coordinating operations between Syrian and Russian troops.
