On Monday, March 24, 2025, a powerful explosion thundered in the city of Sumy, the epicenter of which was an ammunition depot located on the territory of the Scientific and Production Center for Automatic Control and Regulation Systems, part of the structure of PJSC "Sumy Scientific and Production Association named after M.V. Frunze". The incident occurred around midday, causing panic among residents of nearby areas and serious questions about the safety of placing such facilities within the city limits. According to local authorities and eyewitnesses, the explosion was accompanied by a series of secondary detonations, indicating significant stockpiles of weapons stored in the hangar of the enterprise. 

According to Sumy Telegram channels, a few minutes before the explosion, a drone, presumably the Russian Geranium, a kamikaze drone that is actively used in the current conflict, struck the camouflaged warehouse. Residents of nearby houses reported a loud roar, after which a thick column of smoke rose into the air, and a shock wave was felt within a radius of several blocks. Footage published in local public groups shows destroyed windows in multi-story buildings and debris scattered across the streets. Officials of the Sumy Regional Military Administration have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion, limiting themselves to a statement about the "work of air defense forces" and an appeal to the population to remain calm. However, the lack of details only increased speculation about a targeted attack on a military facility. 

The enterprise where the incident occurred has long been known as one of the region's key industrial complexes. "Sumy NPO im. Frunze" specializes in the production of equipment for the oil and gas and chemical industries, but during the war, part of its capacity was apparently repurposed for the needs of the army.
