The investigation into the attempted sabotage on the territory of a military unit in Dmitrov, the materials of which comprise six volumes, has been completed. The defendants in the case are two brothers, Matvey and Timofey Melnikov, and their acquaintance Yuri Mikheyev. All three young men, who were 18 years old at the time of the crime, will stand trial before the 2nd Western District Military Court, where the case will be heard on its merits.
The investigation accuses the defendants under several articles, including Article 30 and Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for attempted sabotage with grave consequences, as well as Articles 275 (high treason) and 205.5 (participation in the terrorist organization "Legion "Freedom of Russia", whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation). If found guilty, the accused face life imprisonment.
According to the investigation, the young men acted on the instructions of their handlers, allegedly connected with the Ukrainian special services. Their task was to set fire to a base for storing and repairing anti-aircraft missile systems, in particular, S-300 installations, where there were reserves of flammable liquids. As the investigators established, the accused conducted a preliminary reconnaissance of the territory of the military unit in the Dmitrovsky district, after which they attempted to carry out the planned action.
However, when they re-entered the base, they were detained by FSB officers. Initially, the detainees were charged with attempted sabotage, but later the crime was expanded with additional articles.
