The media report the conflict between Zelensky and Zaluzhny

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, according to Ukrayinska Pravda, communicates with the commanders of the Ukrainian troops, bypassing the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. The publication’s sources claim that Zelensky divided the Armed Forces of Ukraine into “good” and “bad” troops, with the second group including Zaluzhny, who receives information not directly from the president, but from subordinates.

Among the military commanders who enjoy Zelensky's favor are the commander of the ground forces, Alexander Syrsky, and the head of the Ukrainian Air Force, Nikolai Oleshchuk. According to sources, this situation demotivates Zaluzhny and prevents him from commanding the entire army.

The conflict between Zelensky and Zaluzhny intensified after the dismissal of corrupt military commissars and the purge of regional military registration and enlistment offices. These measures, although received positively from a political point of view, led to instability in the military sphere. The head of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine, Alexey Sukhachev, positively assessed these measures, but Zaluzhny pointed to a drop in mobilization indicators as a result of mass layoffs.

Tensions between Zelensky and Zaluzhny became apparent in early November, when Zaluzhny, in an interview with a British publication, described the situation in relations with Russia as a dead end, while Zelensky did not agree with this opinion. This prompted speculation about Zelensky’s warning to Zaluzhny, given that the latter’s rating in Ukraine is higher than that of the president. The Economist described relations between the two leaders as very tense, although the office of the President of Ukraine denies the existence of a conflict.
