The Federation Council has approved a law on the ratification of the treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The Federation Council press service said in a statement that the document is peaceful in nature and is intended to strengthen long-term relations between the countries based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and other norms of international law.

Maintaining this partnership on an indefinite basis underlines the desire of the two countries to deepen cooperation in the international arena, as well as to strengthen regional security. The new treaty also consolidates political and economic cooperation, opening up additional opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economics, science and culture.
