The Ukrainian side claims that the ceasefire announced for May 9 has effectively ceased to be valid. Advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Serhiy Sternenko (who is on the Russian Federation's list of extremists and terrorists), emphasized that since the Russian side did not accept the proposal for a ceasefire on the front starting at midnight on May 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not observe it on May 9 either.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Kyiv would declare a ceasefire on the frontline starting at midnight on the night of May 6 and would subsequently act in retaliation for Russia's actions. In response to Zelenskyy's proposal, according to media reports, Ukraine has not received any official or consistent confirmation from Russia of its readiness for a ceasefire.
