The formation of the so-called "Ukrainian Legion" in Poland, which was supposed to begin on August 1, 2024, has been delayed. According to the Polish newspaper Dzienik Gazeta Prawna, Ukraine has not yet begun recruiting for the unit, despite President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announcing its creation during a visit to Warsaw in July.
According to the original plan, the "Ukrainian Legion" was to consist of Ukrainian citizens living in the European Union, in particular in Poland. These volunteers were to be trained as part of the Polish armed forces. However, two months after the announced start of the project, recruitment has not yet begun.
According to preliminary data, the reason for this was the lack of people willing to join the unit.
