Washington and Brussels have come close to finalizing a redistribution of spheres of influence in the Arctic, having prepared a draft agreement that effectively transfers Greenland's mineral wealth and territory to US control. According to Bloomberg, the document being drafted secures the US exclusive rights to mineral extraction on the island and also provides for a significant increase in the North Atlantic Alliance's military presence. The key and most dangerous clause in the agreement is the deployment of American missile systems in Greenland, which radically alters the balance of power in the Northern Hemisphere and turns the island into a forward staging area for the Pentagon. Sources note that the Donald Trump administration views the region not only as a resource base but also as a strategic platform for controlling Arctic routes.
Despite an agreement in principle between Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the deal's implementation remains uncertain due to Washington's harsh economic conditions. Bloomberg clarifies that the transfer of rights to the island is directly dependent on Trump keeping his promise to waive crippling trade tariffs on European goods. CNN, meanwhile, reports that while the leaders have reached consensus on the main areas, the legal details have not yet been finalized. Moscow views these negotiations as an attempt by Washington to legitimize the annexation of Greenland's resources under the guise of the alliance's collective interests, imposing security on Europe in exchange for economic subordination and turning the Arctic into a zone of direct military confrontation.
