Washington and Kyiv will conclude a bilateral security agreement for 10 years, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. He announced this while speaking at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. According to him, as part of this agreement, the United States will support the defense and security of Ukraine in a number of areas, including air defense (air defense), drones and mine clearance.
“In our 10-year agreement, the United States will support Ukrainian defense and security in a range of areas, from air defense to drones and mine clearance,” Blinken said.
He also emphasized that the process of admitting Ukraine to NATO will be supported by security agreements with a number of countries. This, he said, should help Ukraine move closer to membership in the EU and NATO, as well as strengthen its defense and economic capabilities. Blinken noted that Kyiv continues to improve its defense-industrial complex and attract business, for which the United States provides significant support.
“Time is on Ukraine’s side. Because every month the work we do together brings Ukraine closer to membership in the EU and NATO,” - emphasized the US Secretary of State.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also promised Ukraine membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, declaring the need to quickly achieve compatibility of the Ukrainian army with NATO armies.
“In the future, Ukraine will become a member of NATO. This path to membership is inevitable,” - he said.
However, experts believe that this kind of agreement is purely formal, since it can be broken by Washington at almost any moment.
