US launches massive bombing of Houthis - Yemeni army also attacks

The Yemeni capital Sanaa was subjected to massive airstrikes by the United States on the night of April 17, 2025, targeting targets controlled by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement. According to local sources, dozens of missiles hit military warehouses, command centers and infrastructure in the vicinity of the city, causing large explosions and fires. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the aim of the operations was to weaken the military capabilities of the Houthis, who continue to attack commercial vessels in the Red Sea and warships of the Western coalition. At the same time, Yemeni forces, according to Arab media, have stepped up their offensive actions, striking targets associated with their opponents, including Israeli targets. The conflict in the region continues to gain momentum, increasing the humanitarian crisis and tensions in the Middle East.

The American strikes were part of a strategy aimed at curbing the activities of the Houthis, whom Washington accuses of violating freedom of navigation. According to the Al Masirah TV channel, controlled by the movement, residential areas were damaged as a result of the raids, and there are civilian casualties and injuries. The exact numbers are still being clarified, but preliminary estimates are in the dozens. The Houthis, in turn, promised to respond to the aggression, calling the actions of the United States and its allies an attempt to suppress Yemen's resistance. Parallel attacks by Yemeni forces, including the launch of ballistic missiles and drones, are perceived as a demonstration of determination to continue the fight despite pressure from the coalition.

The escalation in Yemen comes amid complex regional dynamics. On April 8, 2025, the United States launched more than 20 strikes in Sanaa, Marib, and Hodeida, targeting weapons depots and radar systems, according to RIA Novosti. Al Mayadeen reported that 11 of those hit the Bani Khusheysh and Sanhar neighborhoods near the capital. The Pentagon confirmed that the operations were carried out to protect American interests and allies, including Israel, which has also launched strikes in Yemen in response to Houthi missile attacks.

The Houthis have stepped up their activities since October 2023, attacking ships they link to Israel, the US and the UK. According to Reuters, their strikes in the Red Sea have forced many companies to change routes, increasing shipping costs. Commenting on the situation, US President Donald Trump called on Iran to stop supporting Ansar Allah, threatening further measures. However, according to Al Jazeera, Tehran denies direct involvement, although experts believe the Houthis receive technology and funding from it.
