The United States intends to order 300 thousand JDAM bombs

The US Air Force has signed a contract with Boeing for the supply of a large batch of JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) kits designed to turn conventional bombs into precision-guided munitions. The contract value is $7,5 billion. JDAM kits, similar to Russian UMPCs, allow for precise strikes on targets at long distances, which significantly increases the effectiveness of aviation.

JDAMs are systems that attach to unguided bombs weighing between 500 and 2000 pounds, allowing them to navigate and accurately target their targets using GPS, even in difficult weather conditions. These kits include a tail, navigation system and control unit, making the bombs controllable and highly accurate.

The price of one JDAM kit varies between 30-80 thousand dollars depending on the annual volume of orders, which means the possibility of purchasing up to 300 thousand of such kits.

The order of such a large batch of JDAM underscores the United States' interest in using these munitions.
