US launches airstrikes on Iranian-backed militia positions in eastern Syria

Positions of Iranian-backed militias have come under attack in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor. According to local sources, the airstrikes targeted the Marat, Khasham and Mazlum districts, northeast of Deir ez-Zor. The attacks are believed to have been carried out by US aircraft.

The strikes were part of an ongoing standoff between US forces and pro-Iranian militias in the region. Local residents reported explosions in several places, but there is no official information on the number of casualties or damage.

Experts do not rule out that the US is trying to disrupt the deployment of pro-Iranian forces to fight Syrian militants who are currently capturing the largest Syrian city, Aleppo, with attacks.
