US strikes Iranian nuclear facilities

US President Donald Trump announced a successful strike by the US Air Force on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the underground complex at Fordow. According to him, US Air Force planes dropped a “full load of bombs” on the strategically important facility, which is considered key to Tehran’s nuclear program. Trump’s statement, made on the night of June 22, 2025, was the first official confirmation of US participation in a military operation against Iran amid an escalating conflict with Israel.

Earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported damage to a major nuclear complex in Isfahan as a result of a separate strike. According to the organization, six buildings were damaged in Isfahan, including two factories producing low-enriched uranium pellets, a workshop for processing contaminated equipment, two laboratories and an administrative building. The IAEA specified that the facilities contained minimal amounts of nuclear material, and possible radioactive contamination did not spread beyond the complex. Iranian authorities, however, insist that the attacks did not cause significant damage to their nuclear program and did not lead to a radiation leak.

The US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities are the latest in a conflict that began in June 2025 after Israeli attacks on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure. Tehran responded with missile strikes on Israeli territory, causing casualties and destruction. The US involvement in the fighting marks a significant expansion of the conflict, raising the risk of it escalating into a regional war. According to Western media, Washington has deployed additional forces to the region in recent weeks, including aircraft carriers and B-2 strategic bombers capable of striking hardened underground facilities such as Fordow.
