US accuses Iran of attacking its facilities in Syria

The White House on Monday expressed concern about the actions of Iran, which it believes is actively facilitating Iranian-backed missile and drone attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria by local factions. US President Joe Biden has directed the Department of Defense to prepare for further attacks and respond accordingly.

White House Press Secretary John Kirby noted that over the past week, and especially over the past few days, the number of such attacks has increased significantly. He stressed that the United States will not allow threats to its interests in the region to go unanswered.

According to Kirby, the United States is confident that these groups receive support from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Iranian government. At the same time, Iran continues to support the radical groups Hamas and Hezbollah.

"We know that Iran is closely monitoring these events and, in some cases, is actively facilitating these attacks by inciting others who could exploit the conflict to their advantage or Iran's advantage.", - he said.

The increase in attacks on US forces comes after the conflict in Israel escalated on October 7, when radicals from the Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel.

Biden has sent naval assets to the Middle East over the past two weeks, including two aircraft carriers, other warships and about 2000 Marines.

"We know Iran's goal is to maintain a certain level of deniability in this situation, but we will not allow them to do that.", concluded Kirby.
