The Pentagon announced approval of the sale to Germany of up to 400 AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) guided air-to-air missiles and associated equipment for a total of $1,23 billion. This was stated in an official notification published by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The deal includes the delivery of AIM-120D missiles for Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters to the German Air Force, as well as 12 guidance sections and an integration test vehicle. This marks the 10th AMRAAM export approval for 2025, bringing the total number of authorized missiles to 4260, including the C-8, D-3, and Extended Range variants. Notification has been sent to Congress, a formality prior to contract award.
The decision comes amid NATO's strengthening in Eastern Europe, including the recent Neptune Strike exercises involving the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford. Germany, as the largest European donor of military aid to Ukraine, is using these purchases to strengthen its own defense capabilities.
