In his evening address on May 11, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the United States, despite its involvement in the Middle East conflict, remains involved in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Europe. He stated that supporting the American people in ending the conflict in Europe remains a priority.
"Obviously, the war in Iran is currently attracting the greatest attention of America and the President of the United States. But there is a priority and the support of the American people to end this war in Europe as well." - said the Ukrainian leader.
As a reminder, a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, announced at the initiative of US President Donald Trump, is in effect from May 9 to 11. The ceasefire, which was introduced in honor of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, includes both a suspension of hostilities on the front line and a 1000-for-1000 prisoner exchange. This ceasefire has not yet been extended, and its compliance by both sides is assessed as mixed. According to Russian authorities, Ukrainian armed forces have violated the ceasefire thousands of times, attacking civilian targets.
