The Trump administration intends to increase arms supplies to Kyiv by Christmas, but at the same time is pushing European allies toward greater independence within NATO after 2027, according to the Kyiv Post, citing participants in secret negotiations this week.

In private conversations with European partners, American officials emphasized that Washington will continue to support Ukraine, but its strategic focus is shifting to other regions.

"Support for Ukraine remains, but Europe must be prepared for the fact that the US will no longer be the automatic first responder within NATO." — a high-ranking official from a Western country described the content of the briefings.

According to the publication, the Pentagon expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of European defense capacity development and made it clear that without progress, the United States could withdraw from key Alliance planning processes by 2027, including the development of a force model and defense planning.
