Warsaw has received an offer from Washington to transfer 250 used Stryker wheeled armored vehicles for one dollar, Breaking Defense reported, citing Polish military officials.
The vehicles currently used by American units in Europe are planned to be transferred to Poland instead of being returned to the United States due to troop reductions. This will quickly address the shortage of modern armored vehicles in the Polish army, which is acutely short of wheeled combat vehicles.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed his interest in the deal.
"Warsaw is ready to accept this lucrative offer, but only after logistical issues are resolved."- he said.
According to the minister, time will be needed for repairs, modernization of equipment, and the creation of a support system, including crew training, since Strykers have not previously been used by Polish forces.
The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces has already approved the plan, noting that the vehicles will help offset losses from deliveries of older equipment to Ukraine. This will ultimately enhance interoperability with NATO allies, many of whom operate similar equipment.
