The United States announced large-scale deliveries of air defense systems to Ukraine.
A few hours ago, Washington announced that 6 NASAMS II systems would be transferred to Ukraine's arsenal. One system includes 12 launchers, each of which is capable of firing six anti-aircraft guided missiles, which implies the transfer of 72 launchers to Kyiv. It is noteworthy that, together with the previously announced deliveries, Ukraine will receive 96 NATO air defense launchers, which allows Kyiv to actually close a huge sector of airspace.
Initially, it was assumed that we were talking about only six launchers, however, sources explained that the transfer of 6 batteries was implied, since an incomplete system cannot function stably due to the characteristics of the radar stations. We are talking about the NASAMS II variant, which is capable of hitting targets at distances of the order of 60-80 kilometers.
It is noteworthy that according to some reports, NASAMS systems have already been tested on the territory of Ukraine. There are no official statements on this subject, however, this is indirectly evidenced by the increased number of launches of anti-aircraft missiles by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, although the complexes are still very vulnerable to high-speed targets, as evidenced, among other things, by the strikes inflicted the day before.
At the same time, the delivery process may take up to 1,5-2 years, which indicates that the installations may never reach Ukraine.
