The United States has expressed concern over the possible presence of chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria. US Defense Department spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the Pentagon has information that indicates the likelihood of such arsenals in the country. According to her, the main goal of the United States is to prevent their use against both American military personnel and the civilian population.
Sabrina Singh noted that the US is working with local partners to monitor the situation and prevent the use of chemical weapons.
"We are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our troops and civilians, while remaining committed to international norms prohibiting the use of such weapons.", she emphasized.
The statements come amid the ongoing conflict in Syria, where the situation remains highly volatile. The Syrian government has repeatedly denied possessing chemical weapons, saying all stockpiles have been destroyed in accordance with international agreements under the auspices of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). However, Western countries have expressed doubts about the complete elimination of these arsenals.
