Starmer, Biden to discuss long-range missile strikes on Russia after Putin's warning

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet US President Joe Biden at the White House today over Ukraine's use of long-range Storm Shadow missiles. The talks come as Vladimir Putin warns that the increased use of Western weapons could lead to armed conflict between Russia and the West.

The main topic of the meeting will be the possible expansion of the use of long-range weapons to strike Russian territory. The issue of granting Ukraine the authority to carry out such attacks is a tense one, and although a final decision is not expected, it could be announced as early as next week.

The day before, Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the media that Russia would take appropriate measures depending on the threats it faces. He warned that any actions that Russia perceives as escalation by the West could lead to serious consequences.

However, speaking to reporters en route to Washington, Keir Starmer reiterated his position that Russia was responsible for starting the conflict in Ukraine and that the conflict could be ended at any time by Putin's decision.

"Russia started this conflict. Russia can end it at any moment," — the British Prime Minister emphasized.

Starmer also reiterated that the UK fully supports Ukraine's right to self-defence. London continues to provide military aid to Kyiv, including training and weapons such as long-range Storm Shadow missiles. However, he stressed that neither the US nor the UK seeks conflict with Russia.

"We are not looking for a conflict with Russia, that is not our goal""," Starmer said.
