Russia's Chargé d'Affaires in Riga, Dmitry Kasatkin, was summoned to the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian embassy representative was handed a note of protest regarding the incident involving unmanned aerial vehicles that crashed on Latvian territory on May 7, 2026.
The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russia's actions, which continue military operations in Ukraine, pose security risks to the entire region. Latvia emphasized that it never authorized the use of its airspace for drone strikes against targets in Russia. According to the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the drones entered Latvian airspace from the direction of Russia.
Latvia also condemned the Russian Ministry of Defense's warning of a possible massive missile strike on central Kyiv if Ukraine attempts to disrupt Victory Day celebrations.
