A tragedy has occurred in Moscow: 18-year-old first-year student at MIPT Petr Vetchinkin committed suicide after many hours of psychological pressure and threats from scammers. His body was discovered on the evening of December 21 near a building on Udaltsova Street, and his bag and student ID were found on the balcony of the 22nd floor.
According to the student's mother, since midday Pyotr had been in constant correspondence and had been answering calls from unknown persons. The attackers threatened to kill his family, accused him of extremism and demanded that he commit a terrorist attack. The boy refused to follow their instructions, but could not withstand the massive information attack.
Analysis of the correspondence in the Telegram messenger confirmed that the teenager was subjected to psychological blackmail and threats. In addition, the scammers convinced him to take out several loans and transfer the money to a so-called "safe account". After that, Pyotr turned off his phone and left the house at about 18 p.m.
According to his family, the young man was responsible and kind, was interested in science and entered one of the most prestigious technical universities in the country. His death was a shock to both his relatives and his fellow students.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case into the student's death. The agency is working to establish the identity of the perpetrators involved in the incident. According to preliminary data, this is a criminal group specializing in telephone and Internet fraud.
Experts note that the schemes used by fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Fraudsters use methods of psychological pressure, blackmail and manipulation, creating a sense of real threat in victims. Often, such actions are aimed at young people who are less experienced in recognizing fraud and may succumb to pressure.
