On April 15, 2025, the Second Western District Military Court of Moscow sentenced five young men accused of setting fire to a Ka-32 search and rescue helicopter at the Ostafyevo airfield in April 2024. Nikita Bulgakov, Stanislav Khamidulin, Roman Yakovets, Danila Yamskov and Anastasia Mochalina, who came to the capital from different regions of Russia, received prison terms ranging from 12,5 to 18 years. According to investigators, the group acted on instructions from Ukrainian special services, committing arson for a promised reward. The harshest term — 18 years in a maximum security penal colony — was assigned to Bulgakov, who was recognized as the main perpetrator. Khamidulin, who is considered the organizer, was given 17,5 years, Yakovets — 17 years and 7 months, Yamskov — 17 years. Mochalina, the only girl in the group, was sentenced to 12,5 years in a general regime penal colony for complicity in the terrorist attack, but she insists on her innocence, claiming that she did not know about the criminal plans.
The incident at the airfield occurred on the night of April 26, 2024, when a helicopter undergoing maintenance was destroyed by fire. The investigation classified it as a terrorist attack, and the previous arson of a relay cabinet on the railway between Odintsovo and Golitsyno as sabotage. According to the Telegram channel "Baza", the group encountered financial difficulties during preparation: to buy gasoline and other materials, Mochalina sold her iPhone, and later got a job as a masseuse to pay for daily rent of apartments in Moscow. Khamidulin allegedly contacted his handlers via the Internet, having received an order to set fire to a helicopter for 20 thousand dollars. After completing the task, the participants expected a large payment, but received only 10 thousand rubles in advance.
Mochalina testified in court that her role was limited to mundane tasks, such as calling a taxi, and that she had no idea about the purpose of the arson. The other defendants partially admitted guilt, claiming that they acted for selfish reasons, not realizing the gravity of the consequences. The prosecutor's office requested up to 19 years for the men and 13 years for Mochalina, but the court took into account Khamidulin's confession and Yamskov's young child, mitigating the sentence.
