Armed clashes have erupted along the entire Afghan-Pakistani border, known as the Durand Line. According to Afghan sources, Taliban forces launched attacks on Pakistani army positions in Kunar, Nangarhar, and Helmand provinces, leading to the capture of several border outposts.
The Afghan Ministry of Defence said militants had captured Pakistani troop strongholds in Kunar and Helmand, including the Shakij, Bibi Jani and Salekhan districts of Bahramcheh.
"Taliban forces have captured several Pakistani army outposts along the Durand Line in Kunar and Helmand provinces," — TOLOnews agency quotes an Afghan official as saying.
Local residents report hearing gunshots and explosions, as well as the displacement of families from border areas.
The attack followed a Pakistani army strike on Kunar on October 9, which, according to Afghan reports, killed several Taliban commanders. In response, the 201st Corps of the Khalid bin Walid Army struck Pakistani targets in Nangarhar and Kunar. Islamabad has not yet confirmed any casualties, but the clashes spanned approximately two-thirds of the 2640-kilometer border.
Experts say the incident could become one of the most serious since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, exacerbating mutual accusations of harboring militants.
