The popular Telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" (included in the list of foreign agents), which had more than a million subscribers, ceased to exist in the messenger last night. The editors of the resource claim that the blocking occurred on the initiative of Telegram management, which complied with the demands of the Russian authorities.
According to the information voiced by the VChK-OGPU team, the conflict with government agencies escalated in December 2024, when the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and Roskomnadzor filed a lawsuit with the Tagansky District Court of Moscow to liquidate the channel. The court granted the request, ruling that Telegram was obliged to remove the resource for distributing materials that, in the authorities' opinion, destabilized the socio-political situation in the country and damaged the reputation of government agencies and the Russian Armed Forces. Since then, the editorial board has tried to challenge the decision, but, as its representatives say, the messenger's support service leaves their requests unanswered.
According to analysts, over 50 channels with an audience of over 100 subscribers have been blocked over the past three months, indicating a systematic approach to restricting the information space. At the same time, Telegram representatives have not officially commented on the removal of "VChK-OGPU", which increases speculation.
