On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at approximately 10:50 a.m. local time, a massive car explosion occurred in the parking lot of American Reproductive Centers, a fertility clinic located at 1199 North Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, California. The incident left one person, believed to be the bomber, dead and at least five others injured, according to law enforcement and the clinic itself. The explosion, which authorities are calling an “intentional act of violence,” caused extensive damage to the clinic and surrounding properties, including shattering windows for several blocks.
Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills said in a statement that the explosion was a "deliberate act of violence" that affected several buildings, some of which sustained serious damage.
"Agents or officers will gather evidence. Our primary goal is to keep the community safe," - he added.
Police, along with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), are investigating to determine if this was an act of terrorism. They are searching for possible additional explosive devices in the area.
Palm Springs Mayor Ron DeHart confirmed the explosion was caused by a bomb in or near a car.
"We don't yet know who did this or why, but our teams are working to find out the details," “he said in an interview with CNN, clarifying that the threat to the population is currently considered minimal.
Police Lieutenant William Hutchinson noted that the car that became the epicenter of the explosion was almost completely destroyed, with only the rear axle remaining.
