Terrorist attacks in Makhachkala: at least 20 people were killed

In the morning, work continues in Derbent and Makhachkala to eliminate the consequences of a series of terrorist attacks that occurred simultaneously in both cities. According to the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, at least 20 people became victims of the attacks, 15 of whom were law enforcement officers, as well as several civilians, including the rector of an Orthodox church in Derbent.

There were reported 13 injured police officers who were hospitalized. In Derbent, the synagogue that was set on fire was extinguished only at night, while at the synagogue in Makhachkala the militants left inscriptions from the Koran. According to Melikov, six militants were killed, but the National Anti-Terror Center reports five terrorists killed - two in Derbent and three in Makhachkala.

Among the liquidated terrorists were two sons of the head of the Sergokalinsky region of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov - Osman and Adil Omarov. According to preliminary data, it was they who took part in the attack on Makhachkala and were eliminated during the operation.

The total number of victims has increased to 22 people who remain in hospitals with various injuries. As a result of the terrorist attacks, five terrorists were killed, among whom was the famous MMA fighter Gadzhimurad Kagirov. Dagestan public pages report that 28-year-old Kagirov, a native of the Sergokalinsky district and a master of sports in freestyle wrestling, was one of the attackers. During his career, he fought two MMA fights, both of which he won. In 2021, Kagirov represented the martial arts school named after Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

The motives for the attack still remain unknown.
