According to preliminary information, the attack was carried out by a jihadist group that has become active in the region in recent years. The attackers used explosives and firearms to inflict maximum damage. Several hours after the incident, Malian security forces announced that they had brought the situation under control and were continuing to search for the militants involved in the attack.
