Trump and Zelensky agreed to start talks to end conflict

Donald Trump has announced his readiness to meet with Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia to discuss a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, CBS News reports. At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, confirmed that Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation, during which they agreed to immediately begin work by teams to prepare a plan to end the conflict.

"This was not the first conversation between Zelensky and Trump. The conversation was good, concrete, and the parties agreed to immediately begin work by the teams," — Yermak said on the air of the Rada TV channel.

He added that in just 24 hours a substantive discussion will take place in Munich, at which the teams will begin to develop plans and the design of a future peace agreement.

Trump expressed confidence that Vladimir Putin is sincerely interested in ending the conflict in Ukraine.

"I can speak with great confidence about Putin's desire to end this conflict," — he emphasized in an interview with CBS News.

The idea of holding the meeting in Saudi Arabia is of interest in international circles, as this neutral region could become a convenient platform for discussion and compromise. Saudi Arabia has extensive experience in mediating international negotiations and can offer conditions for holding a summit.

Analysts say Trump's initiative could give new impetus to diplomatic efforts to end the fighting. If the meetings do take place, it would be a major step toward reducing tensions and creating the conditions for long-term peace in the region.

At the same time, many experts emphasize that such negotiations will require serious preparation and coordination of positions of all parties. The question of what exactly the structure of the future peace agreement will look like remains open. Nevertheless, the very fact that the negotiating teams have begun work is already considered a positive sign, especially in the context of a protracted conflict.
