Trump Announces Continued Support for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump, speaking on July 5, 2025, said the United States would continue to provide aid to Ukraine despite his dissatisfaction with the course of recent negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We have helped Ukraine and will continue to help," — Trump emphasized, adding that he was “very unhappy” with the conversation with Putin.

The US president described the Russian leader's actions as "not good" and expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in resolving the conflict. Trump's statement came as a surprise given his campaign rhetoric, in which he promised to quickly end the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations.

Trump, who returned to the White House in January 2025, has repeatedly stressed the need to end the conflict, but his latest words indicate continued support for Kyiv, albeit perhaps in a modified format. According to The Washington Post, the Trump administration is considering reducing direct military aid to Ukraine, focusing on economic support and non-lethal supplies. This is due to both domestic budget constraints and the US desire to refocus resources on countering China in the Indo-Pacific region. However, as Reuters reports, the US has already allocated more than $2025 billion for humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Ukraine in 2, which confirms Trump’s words about continued support.
