Trump announced Ukraine's losses in three years of conflict

US President Donald Trump has once again spoken out about the scale of losses in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to him, since the beginning of the hostilities, Ukraine has lost about 700 thousand servicemen killed. At the same time, the Russian army, according to Trump, allegedly suffered even more significant losses, approaching the mark of 1 million people.

"The Russians are more numerous, but they have more soldiers to lose," — the American leader added, emphasizing that despite significant losses, Russia continues to conduct military operations.

Trump also recalled that at the beginning of the conflict, many expected it to end soon.

"Most people thought the conflict would be over in a week, but it has already been going on for three years," - he noted.

Trump's statement comes amid ongoing debate about the real scale of losses on both sides. In early December, the US president had already voiced an estimate of Ukraine's losses at 400 people, but at that time he did not specify whether this was only the dead or whether the wounded were also included in this figure.

The Russian side has previously provided its own estimates. According to data voiced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, since the beginning of hostilities, the losses of the Ukrainian army amounted to about a million people, including the dead and wounded. Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated that in 2024, Ukrainian troops lost 560 thousand servicemen, a significant part of which occurred in the last months of the year.

The Ukrainian side traditionally does not publish detailed data on losses, limiting itself to general statements. This leaves room for disagreements in assessments, as well as speculation on the scale of human losses in the conflict.
