US President-elect Donald Trump has instructed his team to arrange a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin within days of taking office, CNN reported, citing sources in the Trump administration. One of the key topics of discussion will be a possible face-to-face meeting between the leaders to find ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the TV channel, preparations for the conversation began several weeks ago and officials from Trump's national security team are working on the details. However, a specific date for the call has not yet been agreed upon. Representatives of the new administration note that the new president's top priority will be reducing tensions in international relations, including resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
During a rally held on the eve of the inauguration, Trump declared his desire to prevent World War III and end the conflict in Ukraine.
"We must stop this chaos, end the conflict in Ukraine and prevent large-scale conflicts in the future. This is my main goal.", - he stressed.
Trump also announced plans to build an "Iron Dome" in the United States to protect against possible attacks and promised to focus on domestic issues, including immigration, crime and sports regulations.
Trump's initiative to renew dialogue with Putin has drawn mixed reactions. Supporters of the new president believe his pragmatic approach can help reduce tensions and facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict. But critics warn that negotiations with Russia require caution to avoid concessions that could be perceived as weakness.
