US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran, declaring the possible resumption of bombing raids on Iranian territory if the parties fail to reach a final agreement. He made the announcement on his platform, Truth Social.
"Assuming Iran agrees to implement what has already been agreed upon—and that may be a big assumption—then the now-legendary Epic Fury operation will end, and a highly effective blockade will allow the Strait of Hormuz to be opened to everyone, including Iran. If they don't agree, the bombing will begin, and, unfortunately, it will be carried out at a significantly higher level and with greater intensity than before." - Trump wrote.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the end of Operation Epic Fury. The president also temporarily suspended Operation Freedom, the escort of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, citing the need to allow a diplomatic settlement.
Tensions in the region remain high. The day before, the Pentagon officially confirmed that the US Navy destroyers USS Truxtun, USS Mason, and USS Rafael Peralta are in the Persian Gulf to protect commercial shipping. Attacks on vessels have been re-established in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran attributes to Washington's actions. Trump, for his part, threatened that if negotiations fail, "no one in history has seen anything like what will happen to the Iranian economy and trade."
