On June 15, 2025, US President Donald Trump said in a post on his platform Truth Social that Iran and Israel “must make a deal” to stop the escalating conflict that began with Israeli strikes on Iranian targets on June 13. Trump expressed confidence that a peace deal was possible, comparing it to the India-Pakistan accords, where he said trade with the US had helped “bring reason and harmony” to the talks. He also cited his successes in preventing wars between Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia, and said a similar approach would lead to peace in the Middle East. “Make the Middle East Great Again!” Trump wrote, adding that he was actively making calls and meetings, though his efforts were under-appreciated.
The conflict between Iran and Israel escalated after Israel's Operation Am Qalavi, in which the IDF air force attacked military bases in Shiraz and nuclear facilities in Isfahan. In response, Iran launched more than 60 rockets at Israeli cities, including Ashdod, killing five people and wounding more than 100, according to Israeli officials. Tehran claims its attacks targeted military targets, but the IDF says it damaged civilian infrastructure. Iranian media, including IRNA, say 15 people were killed in the Israeli strikes, including two senior IRGC officers.
