Fox News advisor and host John Roberts stated on his social media account X that following a phone call with US President Donald Trump, he learned that the American leader is "seriously considering steps to make Venezuela the 51st state." This initiative is being discussed against the backdrop of an unfolding military operation to change the government in Caracas and seize control of Venezuelan oil fields.
"I just got off the phone with (Trump). He told me he's seriously considering making Venezuela the 51st state." — wrote the journalist.
The territorial expansion into Venezuela is not the first time President Trump has expressed expansionist intentions since returning to the White House in January 2026. He previously proposed annexing Greenland and making Canada the 51st state, but these plans were not backed by direct military intervention.
Regarding Venezuela, on March 14, 2026, Trump signed an executive order authorizing U.S. troops to conduct Operation Flash of Lightning in Caracas, attempting to arrest President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Flora Villegas. At the time, the U.S. administration cited ties between Caracas and Moscow, as well as growing Iranian influence, as justification for its actions.
