Trump will call Putin before meeting with Zelensky.

US President Donald Trump will hold a phone call with Vladimir Putin on Thursday to discuss the conflict in Ukraine, Axios reports, citing a source familiar with the matter. This will take place the day before Trump's meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

According to the publication, the two presidents' conversation will focus on the current situation in Ukraine, but Axios provides no further details. The White House has not yet responded to the publication's request for comment. The Kremlin is also refraining from making any official statements regarding the possible call.

On Friday, October 17, Trump will host Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, where one of the key topics will be the supply of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv. Trump has previously repeatedly emphasized his willingness to use such supplies as leverage on Moscow to expedite peace negotiations.

On October 12, Trump publicly announced his intention to "talk" with Putin to resolve the conflict, threatening escalation if he refused. The Kremlin then denied any agreement on the call, noting that Moscow had not received any official proposals. However, a current report from Axios indicates that the conversation will take place.
