New York State Attorney General Letitia James has asked the court to seek nearly $370 million in punitive damages from former US President Donald Trump and his associates for inflating the value of Trump's assets. This was reported by CNN.
In a civil suit being heard in New York, prosecutor James is seeking to prove that Trump inflated the value of his properties by between $812 million and $2,2 billion over a decade. The purpose of this price manipulation was to obtain loans for the construction of a golf resort in Miami and hotels in Washington and Chicago.
In its written submission to the court, prosecutors proposed that the defendants, including Trump, be ordered to pay the specified amount. This amount includes money saved on mortgages and received from the sale of two properties. The amount also includes bonuses paid to two former top managers of the Trump Organization - Alan Weiselberg and Jeff McConney.
This appeal was part of an investigation aimed at identifying possible financial fraud and misconduct on the part of Trump and his inner circle. The trial in this case is ongoing, and the outcome could have a significant impact on the reputation and financial position of the former president.
